Sam grew up in San Diego, and has been with the guitar since age eleven. Sam graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2009, returned to San Diego, and has been performing and teaching many styles of guitar and bass ever since. Sam has studied classical and jazz with Greg Shirer and Colin McAllister, and before joining the Youth Arts Academy, taught guitar and pep band at Francis Parker School. He is also a frequently in-demand musician in local rock and roll scenes and has performed as a soloist and ensemble musician throughout the county. He loves to teach acoustic, electric, ukelele, 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s/21st century rock, jazz, blues, funk, soul, and classical. Sam likes to expose students to many different styles and techniques, in order to have students who are versatile, knowledgeable, and well-rounded, but most importantly, are having fun!
