About Rock Band
The YAA Rock Band program prepares students to play various music styles in a group environment with their peers. They learn everything needed to be part of a successful performing group including foundational music instruction and technique, communication and rehearsal etiquette, music history, recording studio instruction, and preparation needed for live performance. Bands perform cover songs and compose original music. Each band is formed based on age, instruments played, music style, and schedule and instructor preference. We put great care into matching kids who will work well together to ensure a smooth and enriching experience.
2019-2020 Rock Band Program
Meets: Rock bands rehearse for one hour a week. Day and time TBD, but will take place on M-F between the hours of 3pm-8pm
Dates: October 1, 2019-June 12, 2020 (school holidays excluded)
Cost: $675 one-time fee for the entire program year (only $22/session!)
*Scholarships and payment plans available for those who qualify
Registration in Rock Band includes a weekly rehearsal session with the bandmates and a YAA instructor, 2 recording sessions, and multiple performance opportunities within the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito and at other community music venues and events. All YAA students receive access to other YAA programs such as private lessons, master classes, jam sessions, free tickets to area music and performing arts opportunities. Rock Bands receive the opportunity to perform at COMMOTION, the annual fundraiser for the Youth Arts Academy.
Students are required to practice 15-20 minutes each day on their own and listen to as much live and recorded music in the style of their band as possible. Due to the small collaborative nature of the rock band program, students are expected to focus on constructive communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution. Private lessons at YAA in addition to Rock Band is highly recommended, especially for beginning musicians.

– The Parker Family
The fact that you and your program allows for kids who have NO experience with an instrument to “get in the mix” and take a hands-on approach to experiencing something as fun and cool as rock band is AMAZING!!!
Our son can’t wait to play again – and has said a few times that he would like to take up the guitar. Seeing as my son is not the athletic kid or the straight A kid – it is so refreshing to see him excited and filled with self-confidence about something! THANK YOU!”
