Meet Josue Vazquez
Josue Vazquez has been a Boys & Girls Clubs of San Diegutio member for the last 4 years. He started when he was a freshman at Torrey Pines and will be graduating in 2017. Josue started playing guitar when he was 9 years old. His dad plays guitar at their church and encouraged him to pick up the guitar at a young age. His dad spent time teaching him the guitar and Josue took such a liking to it, that he continued to teach himself with no formal music education. After working on the guitar for 2 years, his interest turned towards writing and singing music. Soon later, he found himself in local coffee shops performing and doing performances within his church.
Josue joined Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, Youth Arts Academy Rock Program when he was a junior. The Club paired him with 4 other musicians with similar musical experience and interests, they named themselves Blue Sunset. They performed at the Music Box in Little Italy at YAA’s annual rock concert, COMMOTION and rocked the venue with Uptown Funk. Josue also did a solo performance. https://vimeo.com/173536029 (Josue on the left).
Josue enjoys basketball and wants to get into recording music. He plans on going to Community College and then transferring to Berkley School of Music in Boston, MA. He is interested in a degree in songwriting, performance or Audio Engineer.
Currently, Josue volunteers at the Youth Arts Academy as a mentor to young musicians and represents the Youth Arts Academy doing performances around the community. In July, Josue sang the National Anthem at the 2016 MLB 5k Color Run in San Diego and on August 17th, Josue represented the Club again at a nationally recognized event that Sony hosted for the ImageMakers program. He sang two songs including, Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer.
